My role changes from project to project. At C&EN, I collaborate with a multidisciplinary newsroom to turn complex reporting into responsive stories and more dependable publishing workflows. For the Washington Men's Camerata and SLCG, I have been responsible for the work from information architecture and interface design through databases, integrations, deployment, and long-term maintenance.
The details change, but my approach does not: learn how people actually use and maintain the site, make the next step clear, and add complexity only when it solves a real problem.

My Process
Research & Information Architecture
Every web project starts with understanding what needs to be communicated and to whom. I conduct stakeholder interviews, heuristic evaluations of existing sites, and competitive analysis to define the site's information architecture before writing a line of code.
Prototyping & Development
I sketch layouts on paper, then move to Balsamiq or Figma when a mid-fidelity prototype will answer the next question. When I own implementation, I build reusable templates, semantic HTML, responsive CSS, application logic, databases, search and filtering tools, and validated forms. In collaborative environments, I adapt that same systems thinking to the platform, production process, and team boundaries already in place.
Deployment & SEO
For independently managed sites, I handle hosting setup, DNS, database migrations, SSL, redirects, metadata, performance, accessibility, and release workflows. Launch is a checkpoint rather than the finish: I monitor how the system is used, document recurring operations, and keep future changes safe and understandable.
Working Across the Full Stack
Owning projects over time has made me comfortable moving between DNS and hosting, database architecture, SEO, external services, and the HTML, CSS, PHP, and JavaScript that hold the experience together. The most valuable skill is not knowing every answer in advance; it is being able to investigate an unfamiliar problem, compare possible solutions, and keep working until the result is stable, maintainable, and ready for real users.
